We’re gearing up for the second leg of the European WorldWired Tour and we’re excited to return with our new indoor show, kicking things off in London. And in the grand tradition that started a little over a year ago in Minneapolis and carried on into Copenhagen and North America in 2017, the pop-up shops are well, popping up again! We’ll be setting up stores in a few tour cities so that you can grab your WorldWired gear in advance and check out some cool new, exclusive and collectible items.
Sep 20 Update: Added Audio Preview of "For Whom the Bell Tolls (Live at Hampton Coliseum)"
A little over a year ago, we proudly reissued our first two albums remastered for the most advanced sound quality possible along with special deluxe editions including previously unreleased audio and video recordings. We promised to give that love to the entire catalog, and we’re back today with all the details about the release of Master of Puppets, coming to your favorite music retailer and Metallica.com on November 10th.
What do James and Kirk do when they’re not on tour? Hang out at HQ! And now you have the chance to hang with them! In conjunction with our friends at Ernie Ball, makers of fine guitar strings and instrument accessories, three lucky winners will be coming to the San Francisco Bay Area to spend the day with James and Kirk at HQ AND get their choice of a Hetfield or Hammett Signature ESP Guitar.
We’re back... and so are the pop-up stores! We are so excited to return to the road and bring our brand new indoor show to arenas all over Europe. One thing I am absolutely sure of in the aftermath of the opening night of leg one of Metallica’s European WorldWired tour…there wasn’t one single Dane (or any other nationality for that matter) inside of Royal Arena who was unhappy they had to come back to see this make-up show from February’s cancellation! At the time, it likely felt like the worst thing in the world – an egregious act which could never quite be recovered even after the band assured all they would kick things off in Copenhagen for all ticket holders. But not anymore. Because this was the night Metallica unveiled a completely new, never-seen-before approach to enjoying their music live, bringing into the hard rock arena the sort of lighting and video you’d associate with enormous theatrical productions.
UPDATE: METALLICA.COM PRE-ORDER IS SOLD OUT Check with your local retailer for their availability.
Hardwired…To Self-Destruct will be issued on pink vinyl on September 29th as we are proud to be a part of the Ten Bands One Cause campaign to raise funds and awareness for Gilda’s Club NYC. Founded in 1995 in memory of Gilda Radner, the comedian and original cast member of Saturday Night Live who passed away in 1989 from ovarian cancer, the non-profit provides support and education while also fostering empowerment to cancer patients and their families in New York City.
As one chapter of the WorldWired tour came to an end with last week’s final show in North America, another begins as we pack it all up to head to Europe, beginning on September 2nd in Copenhagen with a brand new stage production. In keeping with a theme we started at the beginning of the North American tour with the release of the Fifth Member only show at Webster Hall on vinyl, we’re going to do it again and press up the show from House of Vans too! The three-disc set will be available on the day before the first show, September 1st, at Metallica.com and in our European Store.
When a band doesn't tour its home turf for eight years, then it is fair to wonder exactly how a tour is going to go. When Metallica announced 27 shows in North America to bring their WorldWired tour to stadiums, you'd have been forgiven for wondering how it would go.
What a summer!! Thank you to some of the craziest, most passionate, intense avid fans on the planet!! This has been another memorable and special summer run for us seeing so many new faces along with lots of old friends as you welcomed us back for our first tour of North America in over eight years. As we near the end, we want to share one more evening with all of you by streaming the final night of the WorldWired North American tour live, this Wednesday, August 16th, from Edmonton.
A few of you who watched the Grammys back in February may have noticed during one of the commercial breaks that we took a spin around the Los Angeles area with comedian and actor Billy Eichner. With James behind the wheel, we did a little backseat driving and singing and even made a pit stop for some grocery shopping! We know this has been on your radar for some time and are happy to report that our episode of “Carpool Karoke” will see the light of day next week on Tuesday, August 15th on Apple Music.
Just as the North America portion of the WorldWired tour was launching back in May, so was Lars’ very own Beats 1 online show on Apple Music. Lars' show "It's Electric!" airs each week on Sundays at 3:00 PM Pacific and takes an unscripted, unfiltered look into the wacky Danish mind of the drummer and the music that moves and motivates him. This week’s show kicks off three very unique, special episodes of music, stories, and interviews like you’ve never heard before as Lars hosts each of his bandmates, Kirk, Robert, and James!

To celebrate the first North American tour in more years than we can count, we thought it would be fun to set up pop-up shops in a few cities so that you can grab your WorldWired gear in advance and check out some cool new and collectible items.
8/1 Update: San Diego addresses added!
If you’re heading to a WorldWired gig this summer get warmed up with us by joining us with a view into the Tuning Room for pre-show rehearsals just before we hit the stage.
Watch the video screens throughout the day for a special URL that, come 8:10 PM (or so…) we'll stream our rehearsal right out to your device. You can see us kick the rust off and loosen up, practice a couple songs and, hopefully, get you even more hyped for the show!
As you may know, we record every show so that you can digitally download it or spin a good old-fashioned CD and re-live the night or hear what you missed. In honor of the first proper tour of North America in quite some time, we’ve given our little site LiveMetallica.com a small face-lift and even better yet, have made arrangements to have the team that brought you Hardwired…To Self-Destruct mix each and every show to give you maximum sound quality.
Greetings from Baltimore just a few hours following
We’re psyched to be back on the East Coast kicking off the North American leg of the WorldWired tour and what better way to spend a day off than making a visit to “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert?” We’ll be hitting the stage at the iconic Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Monday, May 15th and we hope you’ll stay up late and tune in!
Our own Lars Ulrich now has his very own Beats1 online radio show on Apple Music! Lars' show "It's Electric!" is the most recent weekly addition to the 24/7 online station and begins airing this Sunday, May 7th at 3:00 PM Pacific/6:00 PM Eastern/Midnight Central European Time. Unscripted, unfiltered and featuring NO "genre-fiction" whatsoever, "It's Electric!" will include music that motivates Lars, as well as interviews with artists who inspire him... all wrapped up in some magnificent mindless banter reminiscent of the good 'ole Lars babble.
We’re coming down the home stretch before the North American WorldWired tour starts in Baltimore next week and we are beyond excited to see all of you out there on our first proper tour of this part of the world since 2009. To kick off the celebrations, we’re inviting you to get a sneak peak of what to expect this summer by checking out our rehearsal the night before the first show via the magic of streaming video on Facebook Live. In a little show very cleverly titled “Now That We’re Live” we’ll bring rehearsals on Tuesday, May 9th live to your computer, tablet, mobile device or any other way you reach the internet at 9:00 PM EDT.
