It turns out, the seven years between records provided even more time for Metallica to find that spark, because 72 Seasons is packed to the rafters with spirit and enthusiasm. And though it may lack a killer, radio-friendly hook or allow the band a minute to breathe and slow down as it has in the past to great effect with hits like “The Unforgiven” and “Nothing Else Matters,” its songs reflect a band at its most focused and creatively on the same page.
