Datebook: Metallica’s James Hetfield at BottleRock: ‘You make us feel good’

Metallica turned up the volume for the opening night of BottleRock Napa Valley, with a headlining set that electrified the crowd at the typically mellow Wine Country music festival.

The two-hour show on the JaM Cellars Stage — in the Bay Area heavy metal band’s “own backyard,” as drummer Lars Ulrich put it — was deafening, animating fans who screamed their favorite lyrics as lights and flames shot out from the stage.
