The European WorldWired indoor tour is now officially over, with the last picks and sticks having been thrown in Helsinki an hour ago. Steffan Chirazi ties it all up in a neat package with a fancy bow on-top…well, sort of.
At WiZink Center in Madrid this past February, Rob Trujillo and Kirk Hammett sit down with So What! to explain the thought and process behind their always-anticipated territory-flavored jam song mid-show on the WorldWired Tour.
“Whaaaaat, that is the round table? It’s too small… it isn’t round… how are we meant to sit around that?!” chuckles Lars Ulrich as he surveys the small, four-legged cup holder about two feet off the floor that serves two small sofas in the corner of the band’s backstage Lisbon dining room. Truth be told, I’m delighted to get the four members of Metallica around any sort of table for one of these chinwags once again.
The first annual Cliff Burton Day was celebrated at an event in Castro Valley, CA. Brian Lew – who has seen it all with Metallica – reports and Ray Ahner snaps some pix. “You all know Cliff Burton over here. Everyone say ‘Hi Cliff! How ya doin’!’”
The backstage air crackled not with tension, anxiety, or rust... it crackled with laughter, smiles, and the energy of a gang which hasn’t had the chance to hang for a long time (nearly too long). You can be sure that Lars, James, Kirk, and Rob were seriously excited about being back together, having fun, and throwing down tunes in front of loud fans.
I think what first drew me to Richey’s stuff is that it’s super detailed, like beyond detailed. And as an artist, when we get into our craft the world goes away and it’s like a tunnel vision or you just… you forget about everything. The clock stops. I mean time stops. And you’re into what you’re doing.
