Robert Trujillo offers a detailed breakdown of how he dealt with all matters of world and creativity in a pandemic, and how he saw the journey into ***72 Seasons*** being created.
After flipping through Steffan’s journal, I took some snaps of the pages that lie within. He had scrawled out 15 things he really liked about this year… and I also found the notes he took upon his first listen of Hardwired… all things I’m sure he will be embarrassed to learn that I’ve released for all Fifth Members to see. Oddly, there’s no mention of his love of Crocs or how he has a secret closet full of Arsenal jerseys, but I’m sure we can save that for another time.
As you might have noticed, we here at So What! have enjoyed handing the mighty pen-sword to you once in a while. It’s always great to see things from your perspectives and I have to also say that when those observations are framed by some great writing, then it is a massive win all the way.
New York can be many things to many people, but most would agree that it is insanely busy. Manhattan alone expands to accommodate some 3.9 million people daily between commuters and residents, thus everyone develops their own way of dealing with the Big Apple. This, in turn, means that everyone will have their own unique memories of time spent there over the years.
Despite the onslaught of digital music, Metallica still retains a deep and tangible desire to produce album artwork which offers both some “wow” factor and (more importantly) an aesthetic which partners with the vibe and feel of the album.
Photography team Dimitri Scheblanov and Jesper Carlsen are tired yet congenial. An end-of-day cocktail is in the cards, having just spent the better part of this July day (and the previous one) shooting Metallica’s forthcoming album cover art, booklet images and promotional portraits at the band’s HQ, and it has been a busy one. Not that they’re complaining.
James Hetfield is both cheerful and ready when we convene at HQ one mid-September morning to discuss his perspective on ***Hardwired…To Self-Destruct***.
Yeah, make no mistake, Kirk Hammett is (rightly) proud of his lead work on ***Hardwired…*** which has come about as a result of re-evaluating his approach to recording. But why don’t we just let him get on with it and let him explain all that?
