In order to look into the future, it is important to observe the past. So said a wise man somewhere once. Either that or I read it on a fortune cookie last week after take-out from NaNa’s Kitchen; regardless the phrase is accurate, because history will always be relevant to your future, providing you pay attention. It is therefore fitting that as I take a brief look back at the year which was 2019, and peek into this new decade, we also acknowledge the exciting perpetual motion in the “2010s” which has got Metallica charging into a fourth decade.

Metallica might be taking some downtime, but as Robert Trujillo tells Steffan Chirazi, he is decidedly not. “He is already a better pick-player than I am, and the ideas he has flying around his mind are just something else,” enthuses Robert Trujillo about his son as he loses himself further in describing the extent of his favorite bass player’s talents. “Tye just has this incredible musical mind, I find myself in awe of it, and not only that, he is a top skater too. The kid’s a two-pronged Westside rep!”

Which is precisely what Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra did for approximately 35,000 lucky attendees over Friday, Sept 6 and Sunday, Sept 8 in San Francisco’s brand-new Chase Center, as Steffan Chirazi explains.

The 2019 European WorldWired Stadium Tour has drawn to a close. Steffan Chirazi waffles on about a “support fly” and the mass breakout of good vibes as everyone at HQ wonders whether he has heatstroke or drank the “wrong” tea.

Enter the most jam-packed month of my entire life!

When this European summer tour with Metallica was announced last autumn, my heart jumped and was fully set on the Ireland show. I mean…Metallica playing at a castle?! A CASTLE?!?! I fell in love with that combination! Slane Castle was my most anticipated show of the tour and all of 2019! So bring it on!!!

There are so many incredible places in this country that we don’t get a chance to hit that often, so doing the Little Rocks and the Fresnos and the Madison, Wisconsins and the rest of it, I mean it’s great to connect with fans in those cities where you feel that.

Which is why looking back, …And Justice for All was so utterly vital: its life, resonance, and “new” line-up proving that Metallica was going to smash its way larger than life through all obstacles, as opposed to drift quietly into the background.

Admittedly that is a cheesy headline, however in the case of Rob Trujillo, it is also kinda true. Steffan Chirazi speaks with him about the tools of his trade from childhood to WorldWired. Brett Murray films the love.

The 2018-2019 North American WorldWired Tour saw Jim Breuer, and cohort Joe Sib, cast as hosts throwing a pre-show party before Metallica hit the stage. By the last date in Grand Rapids, everything had started to take on new dimensions. Before that final North American show, Breuer told Steffan Chirazi about the journey from pre-show goofball to fully engaged Metallica family member.

If I look back at all the pictures and videos, there is only one big thing that turns up… and that’s an enormous smile on my face.

When I hit the road for the first leg of this tour, I thought I would be spending most of the time alone. None of my friends were crazy enough to spend so much money on a Metallica ticket and I was way too psyched about this opportunity to not do it… the second leg of this tour started very differently.
