Greetings from Baltimore just a few hours following
How do you celebrate your 39th year? Well, if a few of your good buddies have their way, behind the wheel of your '55 Chevy Bel Air at Sears Point Raceway, smoking your tires at the business-end of the drag-strip which has been held for your exclusive use for the best part of an afternoon. James Hetfield has just those types of buddies, which is why on Tuesday August 6th (James birthday is on Aug 3rd), some close friends and family got together to watch Papa Het and friends burn rubber, push gaskets and floor accelerators in the quest for best time of the day.
Does this one have an engine?
Was James happy? Well we couldn't really tell 'cos he seemed to have trouble getting words out through his huge, four hour ear-to-ear grin, but judging by the amount of times he floored both his Bel Air and Chevy Camaro (the latter was the stunt car in 'I Disappear') we'd say…

Metallica, la band americana in concerto a Torino rende omaggio a Vasco Rossi e suona "C'è chi dice no", ecco il video e il gesto del gruppo che dona in beneficenza alla mensa dei poveri.
As you may have heard, we’re off to Los Angeles next week for some more shenanigans and while we’re there we’ve been invited to shut down a few streets and throw a massive block party with Jimmy Kimmel Live! Jimmy has been kind enough to ask us to stop by, chat and play a few songs outside of the studio on Wednesday, December 14th. We want you to join us!
December 15 Update: Videos Added
Metallica is kicking things into high gear next year. On Monday, the band announced a co-headlining slot with Iron Maiden at Europes Sonisphere festival, a roving heavy metal festival that moves from country to country and has featured bands such as SlipKnot, Korn and Megadeth. It will take place during a larger European tour scheduled for next summer that includes performances at Pinkpop and Rock Werchter festivals.
Coca-Cola Zero is sending 19 winners of a Latin American contest to Antarctica to be part of a 10-day Música Zero event featuring an expedition exploring the continent's landscapes and a concert by Metallica.
DAMN! Krakow is sure loud! They are singing all the words to everything! James can take the night off if he wants! Show opened with Hardwired, Atlas, Seek, Motor, Fade, and now Dead. Cthulhu is awakening next!
Am gestrigen Donnerstagabend gaben sich die kalifornischen Metallheros von Metallica in der Münchner Olympiahalle die Ehre - und präsentierten den 15200 Fans eine Wahnsinns-Show.
Metallica's "Atlas, Rise!" debuts at No. 22 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart dated Nov. 19, giving the legendary metal act three songs on the chart simultaneously. It's the first time an act has tripled up since… Metallica did it eight years ago.Click here to read more >>
For the last few hours James, Kirk and Rob had been busily jamming with Joey Jordison from Slipknot and Dave Lombardo from Slayer. Word filtered through that Lars suffered a medical emergency and frankly, I don't like to ask too many questions when the boys are preparing to deliver in unusual circumstances. The CD players were out, the guys were ripping through jams and the clock was ticking. Atlanta 2000 Sanitarium anybody? I mean, the comparisons are too crazy, too symmetrically perfect...so did we really, ever doubt that this Metallica show would be anything less than plain goddam cool? No. Why? Because when their backs are against the wall, they ALWAYS ALWAYS deliver.
Rehearsing with Dave Lombardo (SLAYER)
In a sense, the thought of watching Dave Lombardo hammering Battery was something many have dreamt might happen in some crazy "rock swap" game, and as for Jordison, the man…
As you know, the Metallica Vault is no more, but we wanted you to continue to have access to free live downloads from the Metallica archives. So head over to www.livemetallica.com, register if you haven't done so already, and visit the Vault page. Every month there will be new songs up for grabs - a lot of stuff that used to live on the old Vault site, but some cool new stuff too. Right now nine new tracks from a show in Austin, TX circa 1989, are up there.
Song availability will change every month, so don't wait too long to click that download button.
Our friends at nugs.net were kind enough to help us set this up, but since it's free sometimes you might have to be a little patient as download speeds may vary and probably won't be as fast as what you're used to on livemetallica with the Madly In Anger shows.
And as a special bonus, if you purchase any four shows from the Madly In…
We had the highest per-screen average of any movie in the U.S. (even better than Spider-Man 2!), and we owe it in huge part to you, the Metallica fans, the most dedicated bunch of people we've ever met. Thank you so much for coming out to see the movie and to so many of you for helping us out on the release. Your continued support is key to convincing theatre-owners that people really will go to see a movie about Metallica, something some people still have trouble believing.
The great reviews and word-of-mouth the film has gotten have also started converting the uninitiated. We spoke with many people after the screenings who had never even listened to Metallica, but left the theatre understanding why this band has so many fans.
Now our work continues. If you live in New York or San Francisco but haven't seen the movie yet, go see it! If you have seen it and liked it, tell…
St. Anger will be a 2-disc set (CD of music, DVD of rehearsals) packaged in a tri-fold digipack. Included in the digipack will be a 4-color, 28 page booklet with lyrics.
Also included will be a sneak peak at the Metallica Video game. Ready sometime in early 2005, the new video game is a third person vehicle combat game packed with fully customized vehicles and weaponry, endless terrain and desperate, murderous opponents – will include voice-overs from us, incidental background music and other exclusive content. We will also record an original song exclusively for the game along with a music video featuring elements from the interactive experience. You will also be able to see the trailer if you hit any of the Summer Sanitarium tour dates.
When you open your St. Anger digipack for the first time, make sure not to overlook the special insert for the Metallica Vault. What is that you…
