Metallica unleashed their volatile new single "Moth Into Flame" Thursday on The Tonight Show. "Rise and fall/ Who cares at all," James Hetfield sang between harmonized guitar leads with Kirk Hammett. "Blacked out, pop queen/ Amphetamine, the screams crashed in the silence." Drummer Lars Ulrich set the frenzied pace with his shifting beats, and Hammett nailed his Hendrix-leaning wah-wah solo.

We have a long history of not only enjoying tribute bands, but we started as one. Heck, we even recorded a two-disc album of covers! We will always remember those days and continue to enjoy tribute bands, even inviting them to support us on various tours over the years.
Sandman should file the letter in the trash, we’ve spoken to Joe Di Taranto of the band and it’s all good. Keep doing what you’re doing... we totally support you! And in the meantime our…

In late September, Metallica gathered in New York to kickstart the promotional campaign for their 10th studio album, Hardwired... To Self-Destruct [out November 18th]. After an electrifying fanclub-only show at Webster Hall on Tuesday September 27th, we spoke with all four members – frontman James Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett, drummer Lars Ulrich and bassist Robert Trujillo – at Electric Lady Studios the next day for this month's cover story.
There was an unbilled addition to the Olympian collection of rock legends gathered at Indio, Calif.’s Desert Trip festival in October: Lars Ulrich of Metallica. But the drummer wasn’t onstage, sitting in with Roger Waters or Nobel laureate Bob Dylan — he was rocking out as a fan.
Fans have been lining up for WEEKS outside Estadio Nacional for their chance to see Metallica up close and personal! It is an early show toniht, with openers Heresy going on at 6:30, and Metallica around 7:30
