This year’s fourth annual Acoustic-4-A Cure show created and curated by James and Sammy Hagar will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 at San Francisco’s historic Fillmore Theater. Those of you astute Metalli-watchers know that the band will be on tour in North America at that time so, unfortunately, James will not be able to join Sammy and guests on stage, but will certainly be there in spirit. Sitting in this year will be none other than Dave Grohl and he and Sammy will be joined by Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Don Felder, Mick Fleetwood, Vic Johnson, Sarah McLachlan, Steve Vai and Bob Weir.
Immediately following our run of shows opening the new Royal Arena in Copenhagen last month we promised we would be back to Europe this year... and we will!! The WorldWired tour hits European arenas starting in September and doesn’t stop until May of 2018!
The party will roll all night long during the North American WorldWired tour as we’re psyched to announce that award-winning DJ and producer Mix Master Mike will be spinning some of your favorite (and ours!) hard rock and metal tracks throughout the evening at all of the stadium dates this summer. A pioneer in the hip-hop and DJ communities, you’ll be able to catch his skillful, hard-hitting scratch work once the doors open each night and between acts before we hit the stage.
Perhaps you've heard by now that we experienced a slight bit of a technical difficulty when we hit the stage at the Grammy Awards with Lady Gaga a little over a week ago... hmm, would that qualify as an understatement?!?
We’re having a blast hanging out with the best of the local music scene as we zig-zag across the globe, so just as we did with the recent run in Copenhagen and in some of our favorite Latin American countries in the Fall of last year, we’re asking you to choose who you want to see take the stage first in Mexico City. As you may know, our friend and musical icon Iggy Pop will be joining us there, but there’s plenty of room for one more act!
It was one of the worst kept secrets in the touring world and now we’re here to finally make it official... yes, the WorldWired tour will be hitting the road in North America this summer for our first extended tour of the States and Canada since 2009! Whew... it certainly has been way too long and we are beyond excited to be visiting all of our friends in North America. We’re also psyched to announce that after joining us in Minneapolis last year, Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat have graciously signed on to be the main support acts for the run.
We’re excited to announce a big step in our endeavors to give back and share some of our good
August 8 Update: Photos & Video Added
In what has become one of our favorite hometown traditions, we’re excited to announce that the San Francisco Giants have once again invited us to celebrate a night on the field with them. The annual event will take place on Monday, August 7, 2017 against the World Champs, the Chicago Cubs and yes, you saw that headline right – this year marks number five! As has become custom, the night will kick off with the National Anthem and first pitch, then we’ll be on hand all night to cheer on the orange and black as we take part of some of the between innings festivities.
February 7 Update: We promised you something unique for Grammy night and we are absolutely thrilled to confirm that Lady Gaga will be joining us on stage that night! Be sure to tune in this Sunday on CBS-TV to see this special collaboration.
First, it was a total honor to be nominated, but now this?!!? We’re beyond excited that we have been invited to perform on the 59th annual Grammy Awards telecast on Sunday, February 12, 2017. It’s been three years since we were lucky enough to participate in the awards show when we last performed with world-renowned Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang and we’re thrilled to be asked back.
The February 7th show is ON! See you there!
We’re very disappointed to have to share with you that unfortunately as Saturday has progressed, James’ health, and specifically his throat, is not improving and he is under strict doctor’s orders to not sing one single note. So sadly we have to report that we will be postponing tomorrow’s show at the Royal Arena until September 2, 2017.
We’re very excited to be a part of the Grammy Awards this year both as a nominee and a performer, so why should the fun end after the cameras stop rolling?!! As soon as the awards show is over on Sunday, February 12th, we’re going to shoot over to the iconic Hollywood Palladium to hit the stage one more time that evening as part of the “Citi Sound Vault” live music series.
The first part of WorldWired 2017 kicked off in Asia – Seoul, South Korea to be precise. The tour was always going to be not only a valuable reconnection with fans and friends in Asia who Metallica has seen before but also a chance to break bread in that most wonderful way with NEW cities and thus NEW experiences. It was also a chance to work through HTSD material for the stage, as well as tweak and tuck elements of the live production.
A huge thanks to all who voted for the opening acts for the upcoming four sold out shows at the all new Royal Arena in Copenhagen next month. Looking forward to seeing these bands at the next four shows...
- February 3 - Hatesphere
- February 5 - Aphyxion
- February 7 - I’ll Be Damned
- February 9 - Defecto
Three years ago we were honored so share the stage with world-renowned Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang at the Grammy Awards as we performed “One” together. It was one of the most creative, unique performances of our career and we’re thrilled to announce that Lang Lang will join us again, this time in Beijing on January 18, 2017 when we take over Le Sports Center for a sold-out stop on the first leg of the WorldWired tour this year.
Tonight, at the swanky, sultry and superlatively beautiful Fox Theater in Oakland, California, Metallica completed phase one of their WorldWired tour. This one has not just waltzed into stadiums, it has taken on the sorts of venue we have all dreamt Metallica might one day play again, the smaller places, the more curious ones. The Fox is a gem, with it’s bright-eyed Buddha’s and ornate ‘20s ceiling, and critically it has a large, seemingly-sprung dance floor which allowed the sweaty frothing throng of humanity packed upon it to celebrate the night like happy Metallica fans will; with plenty of ‘cheer’ and a lot of sweat. Classics mixed with new favorites, and everywhere I looked, people were grinning or smiling or laughing or cheering. It was festive. And, as a certain man we all know likes to say, it was cozy.
As you may have heard, we’re off to Los Angeles next week for some more shenanigans and while we’re there we’ve been invited to shut down a few streets and throw a massive block party with Jimmy Kimmel Live! Jimmy has been kind enough to ask us to stop by, chat and play a few songs outside of the studio on Wednesday, December 14th. We want you to join us!
December 15 Update: Videos Added
Yesterday we told you about a show just down the road from us in Los Angeles, today’s announcement takes us across the world to Shanghai, China and back to the Mercedes-Benz Arena on January 15, 2017. We’re very excited to return to Shanghai, the only city in China we were able to visit when we traveled to the country for the first time in 2013. We fell in love with the city and its people, so it was a must for this trip!
Greetings from HQ, a place we’ve rarely been recently! And we’re about to head out once again, this time for a quick trip south to spend some time with our friends in the media in Los Angeles. If you’ve been following along, by now you’ve figured out that while interviews and photo shoots are great fun, we can’t visit without playing live too! So, we’re back to invite you to join us at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood next week on Thursday, December 15th for our second to last show of this year.
Wow – Hardwired...To Self-Destruct has only been out for a little over two weeks and we are humbled and honored to be nominated for a Grammy Award. A huge thanks to our friends at NARAS for considering us for Best Rock Song for the title track, “Hardwired” and the competition is very stiff including David Bowie, Radiohead, Twenty One Pilots and Highly Suspect.
We’ll see how we fare on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the 59th annual show broadcast on CBS-TV. As they say, check your local listings.
Mexico City! You’re incredible and thanks to you, we have been invited to stay for one more night at Foro Sol on March 5, 2017. This will be the last show in our three-night run as you have scooped up all the tickets for the first two shows on March 1st and 3rd. The last time we were at Foro Sol in 2009, the three nights there were so over the top that we documented them for the DVD release Orgullo, Pasion, y Gloria. You are some of the most passionate, loyal, and downright crazy fans in the world and we’re counting on these three shows being just as loud and outrageous!
