Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett may be the only rock star to have ever given an interview wearing fangs, and if so, there was a reason. The self-proclaimed horror nerd released his first book, "Too Much Horror Business: The Kirk Hammett Collection," a 224-page coffee table tome co-written by Steffan Chirazi, containing pictures of 300 items in the guitarist's vast collection of vintage horror posters, masks, toys and other collectibles. He held a book launch and Day of the Dead party at Public Works nightclub in the Mission on Nov. 1, attended by hundreds of fans in playfully ghoulish attire. Since age 5, he has been a fan of creepy stuff because "it was something I could relate to more than Disney movies," he said in a brief chat in the club's VIP room. "Horror is exciting and adventurous. It's a reffirmation of my existence, not to get too existential." Would he count playing…
There's everything here, from movie posters, toys, and Aurora model kits, to film costumes, masks, comic books, original art and beyond. Heck, it's a virtual cornucopia, all with a Baby Boomer bent, and all presented in blazing color. Are you drooling yet?
Yes, the lead guitarist from Metallica is throwing a party in the Mission the day after Halloween. And it's to celebrate his new book about his frighteningly large collection of monster-movie memorabilia! It's called Too Much Horror Business.

Bloody-Disgusting is thrilled to bring you an exclusive interview with Kirk Hammett, the legendary lead guitarist of Metallica! We got the opportunity to ask Kirk a few questions about Metallica before we dove into the world of horror and his book Too Much Horror Business. We also get to hear stories of Kirk's childhood as well as a bit about Cliff Burton and his love of horror.
Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett grew up soaking in hard rock and scary movies, and when he isn't working his day job, he searches for ghoulish memorabilia from films like Creature From The Black Lagoon and Dracula. It's been a private project, but now Hammett's ready to share his massive stash with other outcasts who find comfort in the macabre. Hammett's new photo/essay coffee-table book, Too Much Horror Business, contains images from his vast collection, along with thoughts and reflections about his lifelong obsession. The soft-spoken metal legend recently talked with The A.V. Club about why horror-movie makers are innovators, and whether he'll ever go the Rob Zombie route and make movies of his own.
