2004 Governors Award

2004 Governors Award

Presented by the San Francisco Chapter of the Recording Academy (those folks that bring you the Grammy Awards), the night also honored Chanticleer, Mickey Hart and Joshua Redman.

Local Concert Promoter Gregg Perloff

The guys received their award from well know local concert promoter Gregg Perloff, who has no shortage of stories about live Metallica shows in the Bay Area and managed to tell a few last night.

Band friend and neighbor, Carlos Santana, performed in a tribute to Mickey Hart while a local all star band including Chino from the Deftones saluted Metallica.

Metallica Tribute

Each band member spoke about what San Francisco and the thriving music scene means to them and the long historical connection between the band and the city by the Bay.

Oh, and the guys finally got that Grammy that they won a few weeks ago for "St. Anger" too.

It was a great night for honoring amazing music and the rich musical history of San Francisco for a great cause as all proceeds from the event will benefit the San Francisco Chapter Education and Scholarship Fund, and will endow the Recording Academy's educational and professional development programs for the local music community.
