IMAX Corporation and have announced that Metallica Through the Never, filmmaker Nimród Antal's 3D film, has been digitally re-mastered into the IMAX 3D format. It will be released wide in North America exclusively into IMAX theatres for a one-week engagement starting September 27. The film will expand into additional theaters October 4.

Metallica already planned to go big with its new 3D film. IMAX is helping make the debut for "Metallica Through The Never" giant-sized. The film that mixes concert footage with a dramatic narrative and CGI will open Sept. 27, becoming the first movie to debut on IMAX's chain of super-sized screens. The film will open wide a week later.

The heavy metal band that was once larger than life is due to be larger than life again, only in a different way. Metallica is getting a feature film entitled Metallica: Through the Never, loosely named after a song on their black album.

Bob Berney’s rebooted Picturehouse has set the release pattern for its first distribution effort, the 3D feature starring Metallica’s band members and Chronicle‘s Dane DeHaan. Metallica Through The Never is written and directed by Nimrod Antal and marries groundbreaking concert footage and editing techniques with a feature film narrative, in which a band crew member (DeHaan) is sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring show. While out, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down. Charlotte Huggins (Journey To The Center Of The Earth) produced. The pic will get an exclusive one-week IMAX run in North America beginning September 27 before expanding into more theaters October 4.

We see our first Metallica t-shirt before we've even left the Dubai city limits - a chap walking in the Dubai Marina precinct, sporting a tee in St Anger colours. He heads off in another direction before I have a chance to corner him for an earnest discussion on the dynamics of Lars Ulrich's snare sound on that record, but I just know it would've been emotional. And let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait.
