Rolling Stone: Golden Gods Awards Honor Metallica

The fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards ceremony in Los Angeles carried an extra heavy load of brightness and dark last night, with real excitement over Metallica's headlining set counterbalanced by news of the death of Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman. Fittingly, host Chris Jericho called the night "the Antichrist of awards shows," then roared out a "Crazy Train" cackle.

In advance of Metallica Night at San Francisco's AT&T Park on Friday, Giants pitcher and known guitarist Barry Zito took occasion to jam with Metallica. I'm guessing the video below won't interest many beyond Giants and/or Metallica fans.

It’s a big week for Metallica, who will follow their Revolver Golden Gods honor Thursday night (May 2) with a little love from their hometown San Francisco Giants on Friday (May 3). The band members will get to throw out the first pitch before Friday’s game and perform the National Anthem for the audience, but even before the fun on the field, the group connected with one of their favorite Giants players.

Not only will it perform June 8-9 on Detroit's Belle Isle for the Orion Music + More Festival, but it will release a movie called "Metallica Through the Never" at IMAX theaters across the country this fall.

Picturehouse, the newly resurrected distribution company run by founder Bob Berney, has announced a partnership with IMAX for its first acquisition. The two companies will work together on Picturehouse's first release, director Nimród Antal's "Metallica Through the Never," which will receive an exclusive release on IMAX 3D format for a one-week engagement starting September 27. The film will then expand into additional theaters on October 4.

It's been seven years since Metallica first head banged into South Africa, headlining for the now-defunct My Coke Fest, and it's most probably been seven years too long for their die-hard fans.
