Orion Day 2 Photos

After a long night/morning of load out and a flight clear across the country, photos from yesterday have finally been posted.  More photos will be posted throughout the week as they come in from Ross Halfin and C3.

I know what you're thinking... when are we going to see video?  To be honest, it's going to take some time.  We shot a ton of footage over the weekend that needs to be sifted through and, of course, we'll be waiting for the Live Metallica mixes to lay in for the audio tracks.  Hopefully we got enough footage to show you what you missed... or to relive your weekend!

After Sandman, the boys returned to the stage with a cover of local legend Bob Seger's Turn the Page and finished up the set with Creep and Seek. It was a great weekend here on Belle Isle and hopefully everyone had a great time. See you in Roskilde!

As if the last clue didn't give it away, Orion was played after Sanitarium.  Up next was One, Puppets and Battery.  Nothing just finished and Sandman is up next

The boys kicked off the set tonight with Blackened, Bellz, and Disposable. Harvester followed before hitting a trio of "different" songs. We had Day which hasn't been played live since the Fillmore in 2011. Then came Carpe Diem which, as all die-hards should know, has only been played once. Finally, there was I Disappear which, just as Day, hasn't been played since the Fillmore. Sad just finished and Sanitarium is starting. What's next? I'll give you a hint... it's the name of the festival.

The theme from Star Wars just blared across the PA and that can only mean one thing... doors are open! It's already much more busy than it was at this time yesterday and the vibe is great. The boys have another full day ahead of them... Lars is screening Drive and also hosting a Q&A with the various people involved in making Through the Never... James will be crowning the winner of the car show... Kirk will be keeping things spooky in the Crypt... and Robert will be throwing down with the Trujillo Trio on the Damage Inc. stage. No surprise sets today... a full-on Metallica gig will cap off the night instead!
Orion Night #1 Wrapped

Night #1 of Orion Music + More wrapped up today with a headlining set by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Unexpectedly, Metallica showed up on a side stage earlier in the day under a pseudonym to perform "Kill 'Em All" in its entirety. The boys were all out and about in their lifestyle events... James checked out a bunch of hot rods and custom motorcycles... Lars screened "Kontroll" and "Almost Famous"... Kirk hung out in his Crypt... and Robert threw down with the Infectious Grooves.

Tomorrow has 'Tallica closing out the night...

We've spent the last two days at Belle Isle setting up all that will be Orion 2013. The Museum is loaded with classic gear and artifacts... Enter Met Club has a fake tuning room where members can pose with instruments and sit behind Lars' white kit from The Black Album tour... The Crypt is bigger and scarier than ever... Lars' Movie Tent is ready for screening... and the car show is overflowing with some amazing classic cars. Taylor Hawkins was on site and interviewed Lars and Robert regarding their lifestyle events. The band spent about an hour and a half on stage soundchecking and making sure everything sounded perfect. They ran through a number of songs that haven't been in serious rotation for a while so, if you're coming (and they don't change their mind! HA!), you should be in for a few treats.

The crew and the band are excited to kick off the festivities tomorrow and we'll do our best to give you live updates throughout the day. Keep in mind, with a festival of this size and with the number of events that the guys are participating in, the updates may be sporadic, but we'll do our best. Photos from load-in were posted yesterday and photos from soundcheck are up now.

Cape Town #2 Video

The vid from the second Cape Town show is up. It's just a bit under 10 minutes and includes Fuel, Through the Never, and a Kirk Doodle. The vid for Abu Dhabi is up next but we can't give you a time frame - there were some technical issues while recording the audio for the show that is making the mixing process a bit tedious. Let's hope for the best and we appreciate your patience.
